When it is time to decide on a web browser other than Safari on Mac, most users rely on Google Chrome. It is undeniably a well-grounded browser with several features and facilities embedded in it. Majority of people are using Chrome in their systems, but some of them reported that the internet software is taking too much of CPU usage. It is also reported that Chrome is performing slow and sometimes freezes.

Sometimes, we open the websites or download extensions with bugged code in it. This code affects the system through high CPU usage by Google Chrome no matter if the software is updated or not. There are some workarounds so that you can minimize the usage like using the activity monitor and disabling some extensions. Let’s see the steps for fixing the Google Chrome is taking too much CPU usage issue.

Fix for Google Chrome taking High CPU usage in Mac

Activity Monitor

1. Open Utilities in your Mac.
2. Open Activity Monitor from the Utilities folder.
3. Now select Google Chrome to end its process.
4. Relaunch Chrome and check in the Activity Monitor, if it is still taking too much space.
5. If yes, then restart

Chrome Task Manager

1. Open Google Chrome.
2. Click the vertical dots from upper right corner to open the menu.
3. Go to More Tools.
4. Select Task Manager.
5. Now, you find the application or process taking too much of CPU usage.
6. Right click on the selected process and click End Process.

Delete the Extensions

1. Open Chrome on your Mac.
2. Click at the right corner vertical dots to open the menu.
3. Select More Tools and click Extensions.
4. In the new extensions tab, select unreliable and useless extensions.
5. Now click the Remove

Set default settings of your browser.

1. Open the menu options of Chrome and go to Settings.
2. Now, scroll down in the Settings tab and move to Advanced.
3. Click Advanced to open advanced settings.
4. Again, scroll down to Reset and clean up section.
5. Select Restore settings to their original defaults.
6. Now, select Reset

Resetting Google Chrome may result in losing your saved passwords, bookmarks and all other data you entered in it. If losing this data from your Google Chrome does not bother, then you can reset Chrome to defaults.
