Nowadays, you might have heard about the malware that is believed to be Russia-linked. It is looking for the WiFi routers to gain the information of user around the world. The FBI request to all of the people to take strong action through resetting their routers immediately.
In short, at least 54 countries have already infected more than half a million routers, and this malware is growing continuously every day. It’s called VPN Filter and even security experts also not sure about who is vulnerable.
Only one thing in front of all, the router security is the priority more than anything, because all the critical data or information from the user computer system, their devices, flow right the best way for this malware. In short a word, user’s Facebook messages, their banking details, their credit card information, all goes by their router. So if there is any breach, then that is really not good for you.
To get immediately rid with this problem, the security team at Consumer Reports agrees with the Feds start through resetting user’s router. To do this, unplug your router; wait for 20 seconds or so after that start it up again. But don’t be stop there.
Reset your router’s administrative password is also a smart trick to fix this threat issue, that’s the password which you are using to log in to the router itself. Create this something strong. Also, move into the router’s settings and then turn off the remote active feature.
After that, update the firmware. As you are using a laptop or a smartphone, older routers don’t notify you if there’s an update available. So it’s really needed for you to check every three or four months to see whether there’s an update is available on your manufacturer’s website.
To avoid any more hassle, also you can replace your previous router with a new one that updates automatically. Routers from Netgear, Eero, Google, and Linksys all offer an option to keep an eye on updates for you. A latest updated router is less vulnerable to malware. Do it on the urgent basis to secure your data.
