How To Add ‘Safe Mode’ to The Boot Menu In Windows 10

Safe Mode in Windows is essential while troubleshooting the system. Safe Mode from Boot Menu is needed in the event of system failure. Safe mode is the only way that helps to troubleshoot the mysterious problem. Microsoft Corporation has always included the mode in Windows. But in Windows 10, the user has to add the Safe Mode to the Boot Menu and the process is slightly complicated.

1. Use Command Prompt to add Safe Mode to the Boot Menu

While using Command Prompt, it is always necessary to create one or more boot memories of the existing boot entry. To open the command prompt, go to ‘Start’ menu and type in search box “Command Prompt.” Click to open.

2. When the prompt is open, type- bcdeidt /copy {current} /d “Windows 10 Safe Mode”

Press enter after every command you give in Command Prompt.

3. You can also create the entry of running Safe Mode with Networking.

Enter the command in Command Prompt – bcdedit /copy {current} /d “Safe Mode with Networking”

4. Create another entry for running Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

Type – bcdedit /copy {current} /d “Safe Mode with Command Prompt”

5. System Configurations

· As you have created the copies of current boot entry, but the entries are not configured. To modify the entries so that it could work efficiently, you must refer System Configuration tool available in Windows.

· To open System Configuration, open Start Menu and type ‘msconfig’ and select System Configuration.

6. Open Boot tab

When the System Configuration gets open, click ‘Boot’ tab.

7. Select the new entry and Safe Boot.

· You have created the new entry; hence click it from the box.

· Enable the “safe boot” option and choose 'Minimal' option.

· Select “Make all boot settings permanent.”

· There is a “timeout” option which you can modify.

· Click “Ok” if you have selected the options.

· A message will appear telling you the changes you have made in Boot will be permanent. Click “Yes” to confirm. If you click “No” then the settings will remain the same as before.

8. Exit and restart

· After completion of the process, if you are satisfied with creating Safe Mode then click Exit and restart.

· Or else follow the same step to enable the networking Entry. Select Safe Boot and Network.

· Follow the same step to enable the Alternate Shell option with a safe boot to enable Safe Mode (Command Prompt.)

Note: - You can create the Safe Mode with Network and Alternate Shell if you have created the Safe Mode with Networking entry and Safe Mode (Command Prompt) entry.

9. To disable the mode.

· Open System Configuration and the same box will appear on the screen.

· Click the entry you have created and select Delete.

· Now you have removed the Safe mode option from the Boot Menu.

In Windows 10, the procedure is lengthy but not much complicated. With some simple steps, it is possible to remove and create Safe Mode.
